The material hardness is made of

Nodular graphite

The carbon can be precipitated in the iron matrix in a globular form by using additives in the melt.

This eliminates the notch effect of the tapering graphite scales of gray cast iron; this is replaced by an excellent ductility.

This is why nodular cast iron (spheroidal cast iron) is used in fields with dynamic or pulsating stress and is available in various strength classes.
