Grey cast iron is characterised by good casting and machining properties, a high damping capacity and a considerable resistance to corrosion if it has an outer skin.

It is an inexpensive material for castings subject to a high static load (cylinder blocks in car engines, fittings, brake cylinders, bearing flanges, ...) and is available in various strength classes.

Exceptional applications require exceptional materials.
